Conservation board OKs pool waiver on Ridgewood lot
Conservation · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Norwood conservation board waives riverfront buffer for a pool, stalls another over missing wetlands study. The commission voted 4-0 to grant a waiver halving the no-build zone at 235 Ridgewood for an in-ground pool designed by engineer John Glassa, adding a 300-gallon dry well and a 15-tree planting condition after Conservation Agent Carly Rockland pushed for groundwater testing. "There's no practical alternative at this site," Glassa told the board, citing just 806 square feet of the 13,538-square-foot riverfront lot outside regulated area.
Separately, the board continued a retroactive pool permit at 154 Plantation Circle to September 9 after Rockland said, "I was never provided" a required wetland delineation. The board also heard that an August 3 wastewater sludge release at Home Market Foods reached a wetland before cleanup, and that excavation of contaminated soil at 640 Pleasant Street, delayed since a 2025 enforcement order, will finally begin the week of August 31.
