Norwood Selectman Plasko Resigns, Vacancy Heads to April Ballot

NORWOOD — January 13, 2026 — Norwood Selectman Bill Plasko resigned from the Select Board effective April 3, 2026, citing health reasons after more than 50 years of civic involvement. The board voted 4-0 at its January 13 meeting to instruct the town clerk to place the remaining year of Plasko's term on the April 6, 2026 town election ballot; candidates must obtain nomination papers from the town clerk. In a letter read by the board chair, Plasko wrote, "It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that I announced my resignation," adding that health and family must now come first. The board also heard from Holbrook Regional Emergency Communication Center Communications Director Steve Hook, who reported $9.7 million invested in Norwood public safety infrastructure since the town joined the center roughly two and a half years ago and noted that Norwood generated 11,250 of the center's 80,000-plus 911 calls in 2025 — the highest share of any of its 14 member communities. Fire Chief Chris Bailey reported a record 7,270 emergency runs in 2025, and the board voted unanimously to name the town's animal control building after 34-year dog officer Henry Sequeira.
